For TestFlight bugs, include your iOS version, device model, and Stow version. If possible, use Settings → Beta Testing → Diagnostics → Share in the app and mention what you were doing.
Getting started
What is Stow? A local-first music player for iPhone. Import your own files, organize them in folders, playlists, and tags, and play offline — with CarPlay and widgets.
How do I get the app? During beta, install via TestFlight (see the Beta page). Public App Store link coming later.
Importing music
From Files. Open Transfers or Library → Import → choose files or folders from the Files app (iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, etc.).
AirDrop & Share. AirDrop or Share supported audio files to Stow when it appears in the list. If Stow is missing, save to Files first, then import.
Supported formats. MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP4, and MOV (audio track only — no video playback).
Wi-Fi Transfer. On Transfers, start the server and open the shown URL in a browser on the same Wi-Fi network. Keep Stow open while uploading. Max 512 MB per upload request — use one large file at a time for DJ sets or audiobooks.
Duplicates. Stow skips files already in your library and shows results in an import summary.
More detail: Privacy Policy (Wi-Fi Transfer and Find Artwork).
Playback & library
- Resume: Stow remembers position for long-form audio (audiobooks, podcasts).
- Queue: Use Play Next and Add to Queue from track rows or the long-press menu.
- CarPlay: Folders, Playlists, Tags, and Up Next tabs; search under Folders. Apple controls the in-car UI.
- Widgets: Add Now Playing, Continue Listening, or Recent Tracks from the iOS widget gallery.
Stow Pro & trial
Stow includes a 14-day free trial of Pro features (EQ, themes, library customization, etc.). In-app purchases are not live yet during beta — pricing is shown for planning only.
After trial: $9.99/year or $39.99 lifetime (planned).
FAQ
Does Stow stream from Spotify or Apple Music?
No. You import files you own.
Does Stow upload my music to the cloud?
No. Files stay on your iPhone unless you use optional Find Artwork (metadata search only).
Is Wi-Fi Transfer safe on coffee-shop Wi-Fi?
No — use home or trusted networks only. Anyone on the same network could upload if they have the URL.
Why did my Wi-Fi upload stop?
Stow stops the upload server when the app goes to the background. Keep Stow open on Transfers.
CarPlay only shows part of my folder.
CarPlay lists up to 100 tracks per view for safety. Use the iPhone for very large folders.
How do I report a bug?
Email support with steps to reproduce, or share Diagnostics from TestFlight builds.
